By John Gibson. Venue 254 – Church Sanctuary at Palmerston Place Church
Searchlight Theatre are bringing multiple shows to the Fringe this year. After 11 years over three decades they have amassed quite a selection of dramas and almost all appear to be on at this venue. With Searchlight you get a well-rehearsed and competent show. The limitations of the space curb any more inventive interpretations of the text but all acquit themselves well. The casting of Screwtape is strong and the comedic and dramatic moments are executed equally well. If a fairly broad selection of traditional theatre is what you seek (as opposed to the more progressive TheSpace) then Palmerston Place Church seems to be the venue to frequent.
