By John Gibson. Bunker Three at Pleasance Courtyard

Anyone who has watched the litany of factual content about football clubs in the past decade will know two things: (1) They take themselves very seriously, and (2) – they contain moments of accidental comedy gold.  Milligan knows this too, and has created his own doc replete with the patronising voiceover narration, along with a cast of local characters that inhabit these stories.

The difficultly level of such a project is steep, but Milligan (a genuine Plymouth Argyle fan) clearly relishes portraying the ageing captain, the sexy new Italian signing, and the naïve youth player.  His Boris Johnson CEO is probably the easiest character to get laughs out of, but he needs the less comedically powerful to flesh things out.  An admirable and well performed show from a young performer doing something much more involved and sophisticated than many of his peers. I would be curious to see what he could do with the 6 year old Saudi owner (brilliant idea) if he revisits this material in the coming years.
